JAMMU, Sept 26: Continuous detention of political leaders belonging to various shades in Jammu & Kashmir is draconian, undemocratic, as such, bound to have negative impact on future course of politics in the State.
Releasing a press statement, CPI(M) J&K State Committee has demanded immediate release of political leaders and workers belonging to various parties lodged in different jails in and outside the State for more than 50 days now.
Expressing surprise over the repeated detention of senior CPI(M) leader M.Y.Tarigami at his residence after returning from AIIMS , New Delhi where he had gone for medical checkup after the intervention of Supreme Court of India, the party demanded to lift all forced restrictions and allow him to meet the people.
The State Committee has expressed anguish over the detention of octogenarian National Conference leader, current MP, Farooq Abdullah under PSA. The step is unwise, dictatorial and needs to be rescinded immediately.
The detained leaders of NC, PDF, Congress, PDP, NDP, Awami Itehad Party, People’s Political Movement, People’s Conference, Panther Party, Civil Society activists and juveniles should be released without any delay.

The erroneous claims made in the print and electronic media regarding normalcy in the State particularly in Kashmir valley are contrary to the factual position and mismatch the ground realities.
