Rangyug celebrates ‘World Dance Day’ with Dr Priya Dutta’s Kathak

JAMMU, Apr 29: Rangyug- theatre for self-realization and social change and a pioneer in the field of theatre in J&K brought the vibrant colors of Indian classical dance on-stage with a Kathak dance recital, organized today in Studio Rangyug by ace dancer and artist of State Dr Priya Dutta, Head Department of Music, IMFA, Jammu.
The performance was  organized to mark the ‘International Dance Day’ which is observed on April 29 every year.
Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Kumar, founder-director Rangyug,  apprised the guests about  the importance of this day and why being a theatre group Rangyug observed this day. He informed the audience, “International Dance Day is a global celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI),  the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO.
The event takes place every year on the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet. The day strives to encourage participation and education in dance.”
Dr Priya,  who has been bestowed with many State as well as National Awards was today accompanied by eminent musicians of the State,  Purushottam Kumar on Pakhawaj,  Vijay Kumar on Tabla and  Rajkumar Behrupia on Harmonium and vocals whereas Shivani Kapoor, Raksha Godya, Ankita Yadav and Pranvi Dogra performed with her and added to the overall impact of the performance.
The performance started with ‘Ganesh Vandana’ and then moved on with recital on ‘Dhamaar Taal’, ‘Teentaal’, and so on which completely mesmerized the audience including artists, poets and the prominent  members of the civil society of Jammu who applauded the performers after witnessing the scintilating performance.
The event was supported by 92.7 BIG FM as the exclusive radio partner.
