Rana vows to transform Nagrota as development hub, model constituency

NAGROTA, Aug 18: Highlighting significance of Nagrota as gateway to the revered pilgrimage of Mata Vaishno Devi and the world’s premier tourism destination of Kashmir valley, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on today declared that the area will be developed as a model constituency in consonance with the overall grandeur of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We have to ensure that Nagrota emerges as a hub of activity keeping in view its strategic location on the National Highway and being in the immediate periphery of the winter capital”, Mr Rana said while addressing workers on his arrival after being nominated as National Conference candidate for the constituency. Amid applaud; he declared that his mission is to make Nagrota a jewel of Jammu and Kashmir.
“For the past seven years I have been amid the people of this magnificent constituency and am aware about the strengths and gray areas that need immediate attention”, he said, adding that a significant headway has been made during these years to develop infrastructure and upgrade various services. As part of concerted efforts, a strong edifice has been laid and next six years would be dedicated to transform Nagrota as a model constituency. In this context, Mr Rana enumerated various development projects taken up across the constituency which are in different stages of execution and many of these having already been completed.
Mr Rana said that despite being strategically located on the Highway, Nagrota has not got what it ought to have. “But we are committed to accord it the place it deserved much earlier”, he said adding that the constituency has immense tourism potential which if harnessed will open up vistas of economic opportunities for the people, especially the youngsters.
The candidate for the Constituency and Member Legislative Council Mr Rana envisioned a big future for Nagrota and said the dream can be realised only with the active participation and support of the people. He said he believes in participatory development and keeping this objective in view, the local population has all along been taken on board while devising the developmental strategies. He said he has been a humble initiator in launching various projects which will get fillip in the ensuing years.
He also referred to the decentralisation of powers and said the constituency has been adequately benefitted in terms of administrative units though more is yet to be done. He said creation of new administrative units is imperative for giving a fillip to various projects and mitigating the problems of the people.
Mr Rana also expressed his gratitude to the party leadership, especially the President Dr Farooq Abdullah and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for reposing trust in him and said he will do everything possible to fulfil their expectations.
