Rajouri admn holds cleanliness drive

RAJOURI, May 16: District administration Rajouri today carried out an intensive cleanliness drive across the town as a part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
The campaign commenced with road walk from DC office complex and culminated at Malik Market during which general awareness about cleanliness was spread among the masses.
Flagging off the cleanliness drive from DC office complex, the MLA Rajouri Ch Qammar Hussain stressed on the need to adopt the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi in day to day life. He said that Gandhi ji accorded great importance to hygiene and sanitation   and wanted Indian society to inculcate  the habit of cleanliness. He   emphasized on the need to understand that each individual is responsible to keep the environment clean and should not keep on waiting to others to start.
While speaking on the occasion, MLC Vibodh Gupta said that Swachh Bharat  Abhiyan aims to create mass awareness and inculcate lasting behavioural changes of maintaining hygiene among the people. He said that every citizen should contribute towards this social cause.
Deputy Commissioner, Deepti Uppal exhorted upon the people to avoid defecation in the open and maintain high degree of health and personal hygiene.   She said that the dream of making Rajouri and the country ‘open defecation’  free will remain a distant dream until and unless people inculcate in them civic sense.
Later, Legislators, DDC along with officers make the general public aware about how to dispose off their solid waste regularly and asked them to make it a habit in future to keep their vicinity clean.
