JAMMU, Jan 16: As a part of Road Safety Week, Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police today organized a Motor Cycle Rally in Jammu City this morning. The rally started from Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground and culminated after passing through various routes of Jammu City.
Director General of Police (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar, who was the chief guest, flagged off the rally and various senior officers including ADGPs, S.P.Vaid, Dilbag Singh, Director Garages, G. A. Sofi and RTO Jammu, Arvind Kotwal were present at the flag off ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rajendra said that road accidents are proving fatal for human lives and a large number of people have to suffer due to such accidents. Main factor for road accidents has been observed due to human error and it is prime responsibility of all stakeholders to aware the people about the rules making roads safer for them. He said that awareness should not be confined to a week but such campaign should be focussed throughout the year.
He asked for joint efforts by the concerned departments and agencies to bring awareness among the road users, besides effective rules to serve corrective to the violators.
Deliberating on the objectives for organizing such rallies, the DGP said that awareness among the masses about road safety measures would help to restrict road accidents. He urged for strict adherence of traffic rules to ensure the safety of the people.
He said that road accidents have become a major concern for which people’s awareness is mandatory to avoid the accidents, besides ensuring smooth flow of traffic on the roads. Discussing different factors of road accidents, the DGP emphasised for strict adherence of traffic rules by the road users and the common masses as well. He said that coordination among different stockholders is also mandatory to achieve the requisite goal.
The rally consisting of more than 100 motor cyclists of JKP Dare and Devil Team and local motor cyclists passed through Green Belt Park, Gole Market, Apsara Road, Last Morh, Satwari Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Jewel Chowk, Indira Chowk, Shalimar Chowk, CPO Chowk, Janipur, Roop Nagar, Muthi, Paloura, Talab Tillo, Canal Road, sending a message about the road safety measures among the people and culminated at Gulshan Ground.
Earlier, in his welcome address, IGP Traffic, Muneer Ahmed Khan highlighted the activities undertaken by Traffic Wing in twin capital cities and other parts of the State, bringing awareness about the traffic rules and regulations. DIG, Traffic Jammu, Nissar Ahmed, addressing the function thanked all the organizations and agencies who cooperated with the Traffic Police in conducting different awareness programmes during the week.
Among others, the function was attended by ADGPs, SP Vaid and Dilbag Singh, IGPs, AK Choudhary, HK Lohia, SJM Geelani, Yoginer Koul, Rajesh Kumar, Mukesh Singh, SL Sharma, Jagjit Kumar, MA Ganai and JP Singh, DIGs, SK Gupta, Parminder Singh, SA Beig and VS Samyal, senior officers from civil administration, prominent citizens and other police officers.
