NEW DELHI: Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi and UPA Presidential nominee Meira Kumar today paid tributes to the Dalit leader and freedom fighter Jagjivan Ram on his death anniversary.
”My tribute to Babu Jagjivan Ramji on his punya tithi, an extraordinary leader who dedicated his life to fighting injustice and discrimination,” Mr Gandhi said in a tweet.
UPA Presidential nominee Meira Kumar, the daughter of Jagjivan Ram, also paid tributes to her father on his death anniversary.
In a series of tweets, Ms Kumar, former Lok Sabha Speaker, said, ”A reservoir of strength and courage, Babuji taught me to confront challenges and fight for my principles.”
”Social crusader, freedom fighter, able administrator, architect of modern India. Babuji’s legacy continues to inspire,” she said.
The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee also held a function at its headquarters at Rajiv Bhawan to pay tribute to the late Jagjivan Ram on his death anniversary. (AGENCIES)
