Speaking to reporters here, Abdullah said, “The drug menace has caught hold of us,” warning that government efforts alone would not be sufficient to curb addiction.
The NC Chief said that parents and society at large must play a central role, “until people help us, we cannot say that drug addiction will end,” he said. He described public cooperation as the most critical factor in addressing the crisis, saying it could help ease the suffering caused by addiction.

Turning to politics, Abdullah said the NC had “stopped” the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kashmir. He expressed confidence that Mamata Banerjee would win in West Bengal, while the Congress was set to perform strongly in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, he said Congress, along with the party led by M. K. Stalin, was heading towards victory, describing the developments as a “blessing of God”.
Abdullah also highlighted the importance of global unity in ensuring peace, particularly in the Middle East. He warned that failure to restore peace in the region could have serious consequences worldwide.
“Peace is essential. If peace does not return to the Middle East, tragedies for this world are major,” he said, urging world leaders to act swiftly to end ongoing conflicts.
He added that he hoped the President of the United States would reassess his position, suggesting that Israel had not been right in pushing towards war. He also called on China and Russia to help ensure that the conflict comes to an end as quickly as possible.
