RAJOURI, Apr 24 : National Conference MP from Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha Constituency, Mian Altaf Ahmad has urged the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to expedite repair and maintenance work on vital stretches of the Jammu–Rajouri National Highway (NH), citing public inconvenience and safety concerns.
In a statement issued, Altaf said that the BRO has done some good work over past few months along the Jammu-Poonch highway, however, several portions of the highway, particularly between Rajouri-Poonch via Bhimber Gali have developed potholes and are in urgent need of repair and blacktopping.
“The Jammu–Rajouri National Highway is the lifeline for the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Daily commuters, patients, students, and security forces face hardships due to the poor condition of the road,” he said.
The MP pointed out that till the completion and opening of Manjakote tunnel the old road stretch upto Bhimber Gali area should be repaired and maintained to make it convenient for commuters. He said the delay in maintenance work is also hampering the movement of essential supplies and defense vehicles.
Altaf further stated that few stretches of Thanamandi- Surankote road are in dilapidated condition and needs repair. He urged the BRO authorities to deploy additional men and machinery and ensure that the repair work is completed on a war footing.
“The road is strategically and economically important for the entire Pir Panjal region. Its timely upkeep will benefit lakhs of people and strengthen connectivity,” he added.
