Protests against water crisis, people block road

POONCH/ RAJOURI, June 1: The people from Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch held protests at two places against PHE department for failure to provide drinking water to the public while another similar protest was held in Kalakote area of district Rajouri today.

Reports said that people from Dhar Galoon village and adjoining hamlets in Balakote area of Mendhar blocked road and staged massive protest demonstration today against PHE authorities for their failure to provide water to the people during these hot summer days.
Irate villagers came out on the road in the morning and sat on dharna. They stalled the movement of traffic on the road. They alleged that several water pumping and storage stations were lying defunct and concerned staff is also not performing their duty. Moreover, the senior officials were not supervising the operation properly. The general public has been left to suffer. They threatened to intensify agitation, if the concerned authorities and District Administration remained inactive.
The villagers held yet another protest demonstration at Jaran Wali Gali in Mendhar and criticized the PHE authorities for failure to provide water supply, The protesting villagers alleged that they were facing water crisis for the last about one month while the concerned staff has failed to perform duty. The people of the area have been suffering badly during these hot summer days.
A yet another protest demonstration was held by the people in Taryath area of Kalakote today. The villagers came out on the road and disrupted movement of traffic for some time during morning. They were demanding regular water supply or supplies through water tankers. After brief protest the people dispersed.
