NOWSHERA, Aug 19: The police resorted to light cane-charge the local Degree College students Sunderbani when they came out on the main Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch Highway and blocked it for some time.
The students boycotted their classes and came out on the road in protest against the Higher Education authorities for their failure to appoint Lecturers/ Assistant Professors in the college. They alleged that only in-charge Principal and a few staff members/ lecturers were there in the college while the strength of the students was more than 500. They are facing hardships due to non-availability of the college teachers.
Then the students moved to the Jammu-Poonch Highway and sat on dharna on the road at main chowk near Pir Baba. They stalled the movement of vehicles. Shri Budha Amarnathji Yatra was also about to reach. The police then resorted to mild lathi-charge on the agitating students and dispersed them.
