MENDHAR, Nov 30: Villagers from Bhata Durian  and two adjoining hamlets held protest demonstration and blocked Jammu-Poonch road against the decision of the Elections authorities to shift old polling station to some new location away from the village.
The village Sarpanch alleged that polling station no. 114 at Govt Pry School, Bhata Durian in Mendhar (Poonch)  has been shifted to Govt Pry school Kamlo Gali which is about half an hour on-foot journey from Bhata Durian, without prior information to the villagers. The Sarpanch along with people of the area came out on the main Jammu-Poonch road and raised barricades at around 10 am today. They burnt old tyres and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic. They claimed that people will boycott polling if the station was restored at the original place.
Later, SDM Mendhar Ramesh Kumar came to know about the matter. He deputed Tehsildar and SHO Gursai to the site. They assured the agitating villagers to make suitable arrangement for them. On the assurance of Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar Bhata Durian, villagers lifted dharna at around 11.30 am and allowed movement of traffic.
