HESK seeks grant in aid for GMC Raipur

JAMMU, July 28: President Hindu Education Society Kashmir (HESK) Prof B L Zutshi today urged the Government to provide grant in aid to Gandhi Memorial College Raipur Jammu which is one of the oldest educational institute of Kashmir and a heritage institute set by the philanthropists and icons of the community including Late Shiv Narayan Fotedar the then chairman of the Legislative Council and founder of HESK.
Addressing a function organised by president GMC Raipur, Satish Talashi, to honour Veena Pandita former Chairperson JK Board of School Education (JKBOSE) he said GMC Kashmir was an institute of excellence which has produced many great scholars who made entire community to feel proud of them. He regretted that after the exodus of the community in 1989 this institute after being established in Jammu met a step motherly treatment. He said the GMCK was given the grant in aid but the parent body was ignored. He complimented Prof Veena Raina, former chairperson (BOSDE) who donated Rs 3.5 lakh on the name of her late father and educationist Prithvi Nath Pandita of Sopore, Baramulla to the institute and handed over the cheque to Prof Zutshi.
Prof Zutshi and others on dais also honoured Prof Veena Raina on the occasion for her support to the institution and said that such efforts by the philanthropists will again make it an institute of excellence. He also recalled the role of Kashmiri Pandits in establishing educational institutions not only in J&K but across country.

On the occasion Padamshree Dr. Kashi Nath Pandita, Prof. B L Zutshi, president of HESK, Ashok Koul, general secretary (Org) BJP and Dr Agnishekhar, scholar and social activist were also honoured.
Virender Raina recounted the history of the founding members of the Society, including the founder president Shiv Narayan Fotedar.
In his welcoming remarks, Prof Verinder Rawal specifically mentioned about Prof G L Koul, Prof Savita Raina, Prof N J Zadoo, and Prof V. Kak, who have given sweat and blood to this community institution after post migrant in the camp college at Jammu.
During the briefing, Satish Talashi, Principal of GMCJ, read out information about the institution’s infrastructure and courses.
Dr. Agnishekhar and Dr. K N Pandita also addressed the gathering. Prof. Savita Raina, a member of the Executive Body presented vote of thanks.
