Prof Nilofer is first woman VC of KU

Srinagar, May 19: Professor Nilofer Khan has been appointed as first woman Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University today.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, appointed her as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir in an order issued by him today. She was working in the Department of Home Science.
LG Manoj Sinja, who is also the Chancellor of Kashmir University, in a communiqué said: “In exercise of the powers vested under him under Section 12 of the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969, he (Manoj Sinha), Chancellor, University of Kashmir, hereby appoints Professor Nilofer Khan, Department of Home Sciences, University of Kashmir, as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir for a period of three years with effect from the date she takes overcharge, on the terms and conditions to be notified separately.”
She will be replacing Professor Talat Ahmad, whose term ended in August 2021.
Professor Khan has 30 years of teaching experience. She also had the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed as Dean Student Welfare at the University a few years ago. Earlier, she held the post of Dean College Development Council.
