Prof Gupta takes dig at protagonists of autonomy

JAMMU, June 26: The linking of GST with the autonomy of the State is a misnomer. Their role in clamping of emergency had exposed the real of this Azadi.
Observing this, the former Union Minister Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that those who are harping so cannot be friends of India, mores so the people of this State who had to face double taxation and other hardships.
Interacting with a group of visiting traders and other activists, Prof. Gupta accused such elements as big hypocrisy and recalled that in 1975, when emergency was clamped on the black night of June 25, these protagonists of autonomy and Azadi did not wait even for two hours and resorted to indiscriminate arrests of their adversaries and huddled them to Jails and camps because of the number of such victims was in thousands.
At that time the tallest leader of NC backed by Congress, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was the CM of the State.
Prof. Gupta pointed out that some of the sad signs of those days of emergency still existed in this State although such an anti-people’s acts were rectified by the changed dispensation of Janata Party led by Morarji Desai. But in J&K the life of the Assembly still remains six years unlike other States and that of Lok Sabha five years.
Strongly condemning the barbaric acts of killing and even lynching of men of the forces Prof. Gupta said that all this indicates that to what extent the protagonists of autonomy have radicalized and poisoned the minds of the youths and others in the name of Azadi and autonomy. The horrifying act like that of lynching incident that took place in front of a holy place and that too on the night of a most sacred day, speaks volumes of their changing antics.
He said that the dubious characters are equally responsible for such like beastly acts as they have been glorifying the ultras by terming them as Mujahids and freedom fighters for Azadi of “Kashmiri Nation.”
