JAMMU, Feb 3: Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Department of Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi today said that the role of parks in shaping successful cities is expanding and with their growing recognition parks can generate real economic benefits for cities.
The Minister said this while conducting an extensive tour of parks in Jammu city including Rani Park and Zanana Park.
During the visit, the Minister stressed on the need for undertaking regular development works and maintenance of parks in the city with an aim to create high performance public spaces that provide social, environmental and economic benefits to the society.
The Minister said that parks and green spaces are essential to revitalize communities, providing recreational space for children, families and visiting tourists and for meeting civic goals such as improving the health of the population. For this, she directed all concerned departments to make concerted efforts for redeveloping and upgrading the park facilities, maintaining sanitation and ensure proper illumination in and around the parks in the city.
With regard to development and maintenance of Rani Park, the Minister directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to replace electric poles and take up construction of lanes and drains besides de-slitting the existing drains at the park. She instructed the officers of Floriculture Department to develop the lawn by planting new flowers and installing swings and other playing equipments in the park. She also directed for installation of iron girdings besides up-gradating the entrance of the parks.
The Minister also directed the concerned department to upgrade the Ladies Club at the Zanana Park besides upgrading the information center in the park.
