JAMMU, Feb 3: Chairman Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali has asked the heads of the Committees, constituted for the year 2016-2017, to chalk-out meeting calendar in consultation with the concerned members to ensure their regular presence.
He said during summer minimum meetings of different Departmental Related Standing and other Committees were held because of unrest in the Valley. He stressed for convening of maximum meetings so that the annual reports of each Committee is prepared well in time.
Anayat was chairing a meeting of the Chairmen of different Committees of the Legislative Council constituted for current financial year.
Legislators, Charanjeet Singh, Showkat Hussain Ganai, Mohammad Muzafar Paray, Sajad Ahmad Kichloo, Dr Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri), Ramesh Arora, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Dr Shahnaz Ganai, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Sofi Yousuf and Firdous Ahmad Tak attended the meeting.
Emphasizing on upholding the sanctity and dignity of the House, the Chairman asked the heads of the Committees to make sure that the purpose of framing these Committees is achieved. He said the Chairmen of Committees have important role in disposing off issues of public interest and asked them to hold the meetings and submit their report for further action.
The Chairman asked the heads of the Committees to hold separate meetings with the members of the concerned Committees before chalking out the calendar so that the meeting dates are fixed as per convenience of the members.
The Chairman also asked them to activate the functioning of the Committees and sought Action Taken Repots (ATRs) of the previous meetings from the concerned departments. He said the departments should be made accountable to furnish the requisite information to the Council Secretariat well in time.
Chairman also instructed the concerned officers of the Council Secretariat to extend full cooperation to the members and make all the records and other relevant documents available to them for reaching a meaningful conclusion. He stressed upon the concerned to prepare minutes of the meetings quickly after conclusion of the meetings and circulate the same among the Committee Members well in time.
Legislators, present on the occasion also put-forth various suggestions for making the Committees more effective and result-oriented. They shared their experience with the Chairman and assured to maintain credibility of the House.
Secretary, Legislative Council Abdul Majid Bhat and other senior officers of Council Secretariat were present in the meeting.
