JAMMU, May 10: Prisons Retired Employees Welfare Association (PREWA) has sought revision of welfare rules for Retired Prison Personnel (RPP) on police pattern.
In a press release issued here, the Association said that it made repeated requests for a meeting of its deputation with the DGP Prisons in last over a year. Though dates of meeting were conveyed to the Association time and again but each time it was deferred for one reason or the other with the result the Retired Prison Personnel (RPP) continue to suffer multiple miseries and hardships.
Krishan Singh, president of PREWA said the Association has all along, been seeking the revision of welfare fund rules on police pattern and setting up welfare board for retired prison personnel as envisaged in the Jail Manual. He said it has been reliably learnt that a proposal in this regard has been submitted by the DGP Prison to the Administrative Department for approval.
The Association urged the Home Department to approve the proposal immediately so that the employees and pensioners (both gazetted/non gazetted) may avail welfare facilities on police pattern in order to make their living a bit comfortable.
“Moreover even the serving Prison Personnel continue to be governed under age old obsolete welfare rules while as Welfare Fund Rules of Police personnel have been amended and updated from time to time to keep pace with fast changing economic scenario in the State,” said Krishan Singh.
PREWA president said that meeting of its deputation with DGP Prisons has not materialized perhaps because the DGP Prisons Dilbag Singh has been alleviated to the post of DGP Police with additional charge of DGP Prisons due to which the Prison Department has become merely an appendage.
He thus made a strong plea to Governor Administration to fill the post of Head of Prison Department for smooth functioning of the Department.
