POONCH, May 10: The villagers from Shella Dangri in Mandi area today held protest and blocked road for over four hours at Mandi bridge today.
They were demanding construction of road to the ancestral village of famous Mir family of Poonch. The people led by local Sarpanch, in large number reached Mandi town and blocked road at main bridge at around 11 am. They raised barricades and sat on dharna at the bridge.
The villagers alleged that this village which is 6 kms from Mandi and belonged to Mir family of Poonch still awaits road connectivity. This shows the attitude of total neglect of this political family and the State Government as well.
They pointed out that earth work on 3 kms road was initiated several years ago but since then the work has been abandoned by the R&B authorities due to unknown reasons. The people of the area are suffering badly.
Later, ADC Poonch, DSP Headquarters, Executive Engineer R&B Poonch and Tehsildar Mandi arrived there and after long discussion with the people, they managed to cleared the road. The Executive Engineer assured to start work on the road by Monday. The road was cleared at around 3 pm.
