This was stated by Former Corporators Narender Singh, Balwant Kumar, Sanjay Mahey and Zaffer Javed Khan in a statement issued here today.
They said that the decision of holding Urban Local Bodies elections will give new lease of life to the third tier of the Legislature.
They added that in the year 2005, when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was the Chief Minister of J&K, the elections of the Municipal Corporations were held, but the previous regime failed to conduct the elections after the term of the Corporation expired in 2010.
“After a gap of five years, CM and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh gave new lease of life to the third tier of Legislature”, they added.
They further stated that the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed after taking oath as CM of J&K in 2005 had announced that the corporation of the twin cities will emerge as powerful and functional bodies like the Municipal Corporations of New Delhi and Mumbai. They hoped that the Chief Minister will stand by all what he has assured.
“We also hope that the new house, as and when constituted, will complete the projects such as multi-tier parking in the city, modern abattoir, solid waste management assets building for the Corporation and other projects prepared in the year 2007-2008 and are not undertaken till yet.
