JAMMU, Nov 5: Two frontline regiments of the Indian Army were today honoured with the President’s Standard in recognition of their dedicated service.
Chief of the Army Staff General Dalbir Singh on behalf of President Pranab Mukherjee presented “President’s Standards” to 84 Armoured Regiment and 50 Armoured Regiment at Mamun Military Station. To commemorate this historic event, the Chief of the Army Staff also released a “Special Cover”.
50 Armoured Regiment was raised in 1989 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel (now Brigadier) A K Bhatia (Retired as Brigadier). 84 Armoured Regiment was raised in 1976 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Tarif Singh Dhiyia (Late).
On the occasion, 84 Armoured Regiment and 50 Armoured Regiment conducted a mounted parade on tanks with clockwork precision and immaculate coordination in consonance with the highest traditions of the Indian Army. A formation of roaring tanks paraded with élan and pride amidst an exhilarating audience.
The ceremony was also graced by Lieutenant General KJ Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lieutenant General Ravindera Pratap Sahi, General Officer Commanding, 2 Corps and a number of senior military and civil dignitaries.
The chief host of the event was Lieutenant General Ashok Kumar Mehta, Commandant of Armoured Corps Centre and School and Colonel of the 84 Armoured Regiment and Lieutenant General AB Shivane, General Officer Commanding, 1 Corps and Colonel of the 50 Armoured Regiment.
This honour has been bestowed upon 84 Armoured Regiment and 50 Armoured Regiment in due recognition of its dedicated and meritorious service since their raising.
The regiments are the front line regiments of the Indian Armoured Corps which has participated in a large number of operations. The hard work and sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of both the regiments have been recognised by various awards and medals.
The Parade was smartly commanded by Colonel Vipul Saini, Commandant 84 Armoured Regiment.
