SAMBA, Feb 23: A sudden fire broke out in a poultry farm in Sumb area of Samba near here, today. Due to the fire, four thousand chicks died in the farm. The cause of the fire has not been known yet.
According to the information received, a fire broke out suddenly in the poultry farm on Friday afternoon. As soon as the fire was detected, local people reached the spot and tried to extinguish it but did not succeed. The people informed to the Fire Brigade Department, the fire brigade by the time reached the spot, it was too late. By then the two-storey poultry farm had been burnt to ashes and four thousand chicks had died while around 50 feed sacks had also been destroyed.

The owner of the farm, Balwant Singh said that yesterday only four thousand chicks were hatched and feed was also unloaded yesterday itself and today everything has burnt to ashes. As soon as the incident was known, many officers including Goran Police Chowki incharge , Naib Tehsildar reached the spot. Sarpanch, Suraj Prakash Verma, who reached the spot, urged the District Development Commissioner, Samba and higher authorities of Fire & Emergency Department to sanction a fire brigade vehicle for Sumb so that if any incident occurs in such a far flung area, it can be controlled in time.
He said that it takes an hour to reach Sumb from Samba and by then people suffer a lot. He demanded that a relief amount should be provided to the farm owner as soon as possible so that he can resume his work.
