JAMMU: Union Minister of State in PMO and Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Jitendra Singh today said the government is going to open Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in every district of the country.
The Union Minister was addressing a gathering after inaugurating Passport Adalat cum Mela here at Passport Seva Kendra, Jammu.
Giving credit to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for taking path-breaking initiative to establish POPSKs in the country, the Union Minister said two such POPSKs has been started in Udhampur and Kargil. The Passport Seva Kendras in Post Offices at Kathua and Baramulla would be started soon for the convenience of the people living in hilly and far-flung areas of the state, he added.
The PSKs have been organizing Passport Adalats to resolve the grievances of the people and ensure transparency in the system of issuing passports, he said, adding that there is a need to create awareness among the people about these initiatives so that more and more people can take benefit of the service.
He further said Passport Kendra complex would be constructed in Jammu for which the land has been identified and work will be started soon.
Regional Passport Officer, Vimarsh Aryan informed that the Passport Adalat has been organized to clear Passport Applications pending due to certain reasons. The PSK has registered 240 applications today and has issued more than 37,000 passports this year, he added.
He appealed the people to come forward and share their grievances with the PSK so that one-time solution can be provided to their problems.
Deputy Passport Officer, Syed Sehrish Asgar and other officers of the PSK were present on the occasion.
