Poonch, Rajouri celebrate Accession Day

POONCH, Oct 27:   People of Poonch today celebrated Accession Day by hoisting national flag and recalled the events, which led to accession of Jammu Kashmir, including Poonch and Chenani States, with the Indian Union.
A number of people assembled this morning in front of the Poonch Raja’s Durbar where JKNPP leader Prof Bhim Singh hoisted the national flag and recalled the events unfolding 68 years old history and occupation by Pakistan Army for one year from 1947 to 1948.   He paid tributes to the people of Poonch, who under the leadership of Gulam Qadir Bandey, led the resistance movement against forces of occupation till Pakistan was forced to retreate.  He lauded  the heroic performance of J&K forces under the leadership of Col  Heera Nand Dubey, Capt  Dewan Singh and several others who pushed out Pakistani forces from Poonch.  He also paid tributes to Brig Pritam Singh,  who has written a history of victory of the people of Poonch against Pakistani invaders.
Earlier, Anita Thakur led the national anthem team which, perhaps, was sung for the first time on the Accession Day in Poonch.  The district president of Poonch,   Ashfaq Rana, praised Maharaja Hari Singh’s  bold decision in the interest of people of the State.
Later, Prof  Bhim Singh also inaugurated the Accession Day celebrations in Rajouri by unfurling tri-colur flag at Gujjar Mandi where hundreds of people had gathered raising slogans in support of national integration.
Rajouri District president of Panthers Party,   Ghulam Mustafa Wani also spoke on the occasion.
