SRINAGAR, Nov 19: The Election Commission today said that all the 804 polling stations in the eight Assembly segments in Srinagar district that goes to polls in the fourth phase on December 14 are “hypersensitive.”
Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, who is also District Election Officer, told reporters here that Srinagar’s eight Assembly segments have 804 polling stations spread at 412 places throughout the district are “hypersensitive.
While issuing the notification for filing nomination papers for contesting elections, Shah said 6, 23717 voters registered till October 15 will cast their votes. Among these migrant Kashmiri voters are 30,364, with Habba Kadal having highest 16,710 and Amira Kadal 4917 registered voters.
He said that 26 polling booths have been established for migrant voters: 21 in Jammu, 4 in Delhi and 1 in Udhampur.
He said that to maintain law and order Srinagar has been divided into 23 security zones.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission today issued notification for the fourth phase of Assembly elections for 18 constituencies, slated for polls on December 14.
In the fourth phase, last one for the Valley, sixteen Assembly segments in three districts of Srinagar, Anantnag and Shopian will go to polls.
The notification was today issued for 18 constituencies which include eight in Srinagar – Hazratbal, Zadibal, Idgah, Khanyar, Habba Kadal, Amira Kadal, Sonawar and Batamaloo, six in Anantnag – Anantnag, Doru, Kokernag, Shangus, Bijbehara and Pahalgam and two in Shopian – Wachi and Shopian in the Valley and Samba and Vijaypur in Jammu region.
Shah said last date for filing nominations is November 26, while the scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on November 27 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is on November 29.
He said that adequate arrangements have been made for holding the elections.
“38 service voters will cast their votes through postal ballot for which arrangements have been made by the office,” he said.
