SRINAGAR, May 17: Under the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan’, police today carried out a series of anti-drug awareness, enforcement and outreach programmes across Baramulla, Anantnag, Shopian and Budgam districts.
The spokesperson said that awareness programmes, mini-marathons, rallies, candlelight marches, medical camps and community meetings were organised in different areas to educate people, especially youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage collective efforts for a drug-free society. Religious leaders, teachers, students, local elders and members of civil society actively participated in the programmes.
In Baramulla, police organised awareness events at Kachu and Nagbal and also destroyed large patches of wild Bhang in Souchipora and Astaan Mohalla Kreeri with the support of local residents.
In Budgam, police conducted awareness workshops, rallies, pledge-taking ceremonies and village-level Police Community Partnership Group (PCPG) meetings at various locations across the district.
The spokesperson further said that Anantnag Police conducted simultaneous Narco Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) at 20 locations across the district to target drug peddlers, kingpins and their associates. K9 squads were also deployed during the searches.
Meanwhile, police arrested three drug-peddlers in Awantipora and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances including cannabis and charas from their possession. Cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered and investigation has been taken up.
In Shopian, police attached a residential property belonging to a drug peddler under FIR No. 117/2025 of Police Station Zainapora. Police also organised a candlelight march in Keller area in collaboration with local residents to spread awareness against drug abuse.
