Police arrest man for stealing willow

Srinagar, June 8: The police have arrested a man for allegedly felling, stealing and transporting willow timber from the Warpora forest area in Sopore, officials said today.
Stolen timber along with a horse cart allegedly used for its transportation was seized during the operation.
The accused has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Ganaie, son of Mohammad Shabir Ganaie, a resident of Jalalabad, Sopore.
The arrest was made following specific information about the illegal felling, extraction and transportation of forest produce in the area, police said.
A police team rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused while he was allegedly transporting the illegally felled willow timber.
A police party from Police Post Warpora rushed to the area and found the accused transporting illegally felled willow logs on a horse cart.
The timber and the cart were seized on the spot.
In this connection, FIR No. 136/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26-F of the Forest Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and an investigation has been initiated.
