NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the government was working out on cashless treatment scheme for providing immediate medical relief to victims of road accidents, and also promised quota to disabled for railway travel and touched various other issues in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme at the All India Radio.
Mr Modi in his initial remarks paid tribute to martyrs of the Kargil war and also expressed satisfaction over monsoon rains. He narrated various stories of initiatives taken by private citizens and communities, including construction of toilets, to improve their civic life.
He exhorted the bureaucrats to progress from being a ”karmchari (employee) to ”Karmyogi”(public servant).
Mr Modi also underlined the urgent need of more and more students opting for becoming scientists and spoke proudly of the recent launch by India of five heavy satellities of UK.
In a first for a Prime Minister, he sought suggestions from people on the subjects he would speak on in August 15 address.
The Prime Minister expressed concern over the increasing number of road accidents, pointing out that in India, one person was dying every four minute in a road accident. Stating that he was shocked and pained to recently see a scooterist dying on the road without anybody coming to his help, the Prime Minister said the government was coming out with a national road safety policy under which there will be cashless treatment for accident victims for the first 50 hours.
