PIL against use of loud speakers in religious institutions

DB directs DC Jammu to appear in person

JAMMU, July 18: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Life Plus Club regarding use of loud speakers in religious institutions, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir today directed Deputy Commissioner, Jammu to remain present on the next date of hearing.
In the PIL, it has been submitted that reciting of prayer with the help of microphones and loud speakers during night— between 10 pm to 6 am is not only the cause of nuisance in the neighborhood but also disturb the sound sleep of aged and infirms, who otherwise want reasonable quietness during their leisure hours.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Veenu Gupta appearing for the PIL whereas AAG Gagan Basotra appearing for the State and Advocate S S Nanda for the JMC, Division Bench observed that since the latest compliance report in terms of the order dated June 13, 2012 has not been filed, respondent DC Jammu should remain present on the next date of hearing.
