People of Ladakh in close touch with tradition, culture: Dalai Lama

LEH, July 18 : The visit of Buddhist spiritual leader Dalai Lama to Ladakh is celebrated no less than as a grand festival and it was once again witnessed today morning with around 30,000 devotees standing packed on 11 km length of road from airport to Jivetsal, Shey
Holding khataks, incense, flowers and dressed up in traditional attire they welcomed their most revered spiritual leader Dalai Lama who reached Leh  for his 3 weeks visit to Ladakh region. He was accompanied by Rigzin Jora, Minister for Tourism and Culture.
Addressing small gathering of VVIPs, VIPs, monks and media persons at Jivetsal palace, Dalai Lama expressed happiness to see the people of Ladakh in close touch with their tradition and culture and said that construction of monasteries doesn’t ensure preservation of culture but it’s through study of mind and heart and control of emotions in an analytical way which in real terms maintain our moral and cultural values.
“Buddhist tradition has long old history and now the onus is on today’s generation to take full responsibility of preserving and flourishing it further. We have to become the 21st century Buddhist in actual sense having clear and vast knowledge on Buddhism,” he said, adding  Tibetan Buddhism is not a created ones but it has its origin from the Nalanda Buddhist tradition and today it is being studied by scientists world over because it deals with study of mind and emotions.
The Buddhist spiritual leader also enquired about the major developments in Leh. Mr Jora and CEC Rigzin Spalbar gave a brief account on that.
Earlier, Dalai Lama was received by LAHDC CEC Rigzin Spalbar, Executive Councilors, Councilors, DC Leh Tsering Angchok, various political leaders, religious heads and eminent personalities.
