PHE employees demand release of pending wages

UDHAMPUR, Aug 2: Water Workers PHE Employees’ Association today demanded the authorities to release their wages which are pending for last 48 months.
Discussing the issue during a monthly meeting of the association here at PHE Complex, Som Nath, senior vice-president of provincial body of the association, said that the delay in salaries have affected the education of the children of the employees.
“The families of the employees are facing starvation. They are unable to pay the tuition fee of their children. If the authorities continue to delay their salaries they will be forced to stop sending children to schools,” he said. He threatened to launch statewide protests if their salary was not released shortly.
He appealed Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, Advisor to the Governor, to issue orders for immediate release of all pending wages of the employees. He also demanded implementation of SRO 520 that would ensure the timely release of their salaries and regularization of services.
Vijay Kumar, general secretary of the association, said that part time workers have been working in the department for last several years at the rate of Rs 500 only and that too is given to them after 6 months. He demanded that such workers be put on biometric attendance so that they can get at least daily wager rate.
Other demands discussed in the meeting include conduction of DPC at division and provincial level, removing shortage of staff, change of designation of employees as per nature of their work and removing qualification bar in SRO 520 as workers are working in the department for last 15-20 years.
