KATHUA, Aug 8: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of State Legislature headed by its Chairman Mohd Akbar Lone visited  village Mehtabpur and took stock of the water supply schemes of Rs 1.32 crores  framed to supply nearly 7000 souls of half dozen of villages.
The PAC took serious exception to the functioning of the Department as the scheme was started in 2000 but surprisingly till the date people did not get drinking water. A threadbare discussion was held between the legislators and Chief Engineer and officers of the PHE Department. The MLA Kathua Rajeev Jasrotia wanted to know the cause of delay of the scheme and alleged misappropriation of funds.

He said it is strange that people did not get water in17 years since the start of the scheme. He said that the project was also shifted from Mehtabpur to village Maroli without any permission and additional funds also used in addition to project report which was totally illegal. The project failed to cater to needs of nearly 8000 souls for which it was executed, he added.
He said this openly shows the misappropriation of funds and power as people were deprived of basic facilities.  The majority of the legislators took serious note of negligence of PHE Department and lack of wok culture in the Department. The Committee asked the PHE Department to submit the final report till the 31st of August about the project and completion period .
The Chairman of the Committee Mohd Akbar Lone said that the Committee will take stern action against the Department for  delaying the schemes and misappropriation made during the last 17 years  .
