People show serious concern over illegal mining, meet DC

KATHUA, Jan 29: The residents of village Jarmal and Jageai of block Nagri have shown their serious concern over the illegal mining in their areas in Ujh river which has caused the environmental threat and degradation of flora and fauna in the area.
A deputation of village Jarmal and Jageai led by Shashi Sharma, Balkar Singh and Kuldeep Raj met the Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, O P Bhagat in his office chamber here, today. The deputation showed strong resentment over the illegal mining in the area and also expressed resentment over the holding of public hearing in allotment of Mining blocks in their villages at Ujh River.
They said that the public hearing was arranged at Nagari instead of affected villages in a planned way. They asked DC Kathua, O P Bhagat to initiate an inquiry into the matter that why public hearing was arranged at another place instead in the village Jarmal and Jageai.
They also demanded to verify the video footage of public hearing that who were the people who had attended the public hearing. The deputation appealed the Deputy Commissioner not to issue the NOC and mining block permission without the consent of local villagers as they are widely affected due to illegal mining in their areas.
The people are already facing environmental problems and water crises as the water table has gone down, they added.
