RAJOURI, Oct 27: The villagers from Galuti and Patrara area in Manjakote held strong protest and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway after a young pregnant woman allegedly died of medical staff’s negligence in Rajouri district.
Reports said that 24-year-old Shazia, wife of Mohd Ajaz, resident of Galuti village in Manjakote Tehsil of rajouri was brought to Manjakote hospital during last night around 2 am with labour pains by the family members. Her condition was serious. A doctor and a nurse though attended the patient in local hospital yet her condition went on deteriorating. She delivered a baby at around 4.30 am.
Sensing her condition more critical, the doctor referred her to GMC Hospital, Rajouri. The family alleged that the hospital authorities did not provide them ambulance and even committed delay in the treatment. The patient was rushed to GMC Rajouri in a private vehicle where she died.
Later, the relatives of the deceased and villagers from the area came out on the road and kept the dead body of the woman at Patrara on Jammu-Poonch highway and started protest. The protest was started at around 8.30 am and continued up to 11 am. The people were demanding action against the Medical staff at Manjakote hospital. They alleged that staff was responsible for the death of young Shazia.
With the intervention of SDPO and Tehsildar Manjakote, the people lifted dharna. A large number of vehicles were caught in long traffic jam. They assured fair action in this regard. The District Administration also talked to the family members on phone and assured a probe.
