People protest against alleged negligent death of lady

KISHTWAR, May 20: People held protest against alleged negligent death of a lady.
Large number of people from Sangram Bhatta assembled outside District Hospital here and held protest against the alleged death of a lady due to negligence of doctors.
The protestors stated that a lady namely Shakeela Begum, wife of Mohammad Iqbal, a resident of village Sangram Bhatta was admitted in District Hospital Doda around one month back to get treated for gallbladder stone.
“The lady was operated by a team of doctors headed by surgeon Dr Gurudev. After post surgery, the patient suffered severe pain and was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, where during examination, it came to fore that some cotton pieces have been left inside the abdoman of the patient”, they said, adding that the lady was again sent back to District Hospital and was again operated by the team of doctors headed by Dr Gurudev.
They informed that after second surgery, the patient again suffered pain and was referred to SKIMS Soura at Srinagar, where she died during treatment late last night.
The protestors were demanding registration of FIR against Dr Gurudev and compensation to the family of the deceased, so that such incident could not happen again in future.
After getting information, officials from District Administration held meeting with Imam of Jamia Masjid and family members of the deceased and assured them of free and fair probe in the incident.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
Later, autopsy was conducted by the board of doctors at District Hospital Kishtwar in the presence of Magistrate.
When contacted DC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana told the EXCELSIOR that enquiry has been ordered in the incident and strict punishment will be given to guilty.
