KATHUA, Mar 5: All Backward Classes led by its president Kartar Chand Verma held a protest demonstration in support of their demands here, today.
A large number of OBC community people assembled at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park here and took out a protest march to DC Office Kathua demanding immediate settlement of their long pending demands including grant of 27 percent reservation in accordance with Mandal Commission recommendations. They were raising slogans in favour of their demands and demanding the implementation of 27percent reservations for them on the pattern of other states of India.
They also submitted a charter of demands to Deputy Commissioner, Kathua which was addressed to LG of JK UT, G C Murmu appealing him to consider the demands without further delay.
The memorandum while demanding immediate benefit under Mandal Commission recommendations to the OBCs in J&K said that under the Indian Constitution Backward Classes are described as Socially and Educationally Backward Classes and the Government is enjoined to ensure their social and educational development under the Article 340 of Indian Constitution.
Alleging that the process of ill treatment and discrimination continues towards OBCs in J&K the memorandum demanded that the same be done away with immediately and OBCs be given their due share in all spheres of life for their progress and prosperity.
They regretted that the 27 percent reservation policy has not been implemented in J&K despite the abrogation of Article 370 which was a barrier in implementation of Central laws in J&K and this way the discrimination with the OBCs still continued and abrogation of Article 370 made no difference for them.
The memorandum further demanded removal of income bar for obtaining the OBC certificates, issuance of single OBC certificate valid throughout the country, reservation in promotions to the Government employees working in different departments on the analogy of SCs and STs and conducting of caste census in 2021 besides inclusion of OBC column in 2021 census.
