SRINAGAR, Sept 20: The entire record of Accountant General’s Office Srinagar lying in the ground floor of the office building including pensioners cases are feared to have been destroyed in recent flash floods as it was totally submerged in water for days together.
According to sources, the entire record of AG Office including pensioners’ record, Voucher Level Computerization System (VLCS), bank branch of AG Office and its other official records are feared to have been destroyed in the flash floods.
Sources said over 60,000 State Government pensioners will be affected following the destruction of their records in A G Office and it will take a lot of time in compiling the same. The receipt dispatch system of AG Office was also in ground floor and new pension cases which were under the process of finalization have also been destroyed, sources added.
Sources said as the flood water level increased all of a sudden and water level rose beyond the expectations the officials in the AG Office despite their hard efforts could not save the same.
Sources said the computer library, pension library and VLC which were lying in ground floor are fared to have been completely destroyed in the flood waters. A pensioner has to now visit many offices in compiling the records which is a lengthy process.
Besides the bank branch of SBI in AG Office, its own cash branch and receipt dispatch system have also been affected, sources said.
Sources said that all Treasury account vouchers of State Government are being compiled and audited by AG’s Office on the basis of which the yearly balance sheets are framed. This entire record is fared to have been destroyed in flood waters as the same was lying in ground floor of the building, sources added.
This is the most important record of AG’s Office which is the basis of Finance and Appropriation Account compiled by the office and on the basis of which the annual audit report is made.
Admitting that the entire record in ground floor of AG Office has been destroyed, Deputy Accountant General (DAG), Accounts and Entitlements Farooq Ahmed said that entire ground floor was submerged in water and important records including VLC system, pensioners library and Computer library has been destroyed.
He said despite the best efforts the records could not be saved as this flood was beyond our expectations.
He said there is still three feet water in AG’s Office which is situated near Exhibition Ground, and the actual assessment of loss will only be made after the office resumes normal functioning.
He said all efforts are being made to deplete the water from the area so that the office resumes its functioning from Monday.
