SRINAGAR, Oct 15:  Former State Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed today said that his party would vigorously pursue the development agenda for Kargil region along with other areas  and would focus on improving connectivity to Ladakh region.
Speaking at a function organised here in connection with the joining of  noted social activist Haji Inayat Ali from Islamia School Kargil today, Mufti recalled the historic steps taken by the PDP led Government to empower Kargil to give its development a much needed boost. He said his party would focus on development agenda of the Kargil after it comes to power.
Referring to the primary focus on the connectivity, Mufti said that the execution of Zojila tunnel has been delayed but he would stress the concerned Ministry to start work on this prestigious project from both the sides to complete it in minimum time. Mufti said the expansion for Kargil town is needed to be tackled with understanding and compassion. He said a land rationalization effort will have to be made and if the PDP gets a decisive mandate in Assembly elections, this problem would be addressed on priority.
The PDP stalwart while referring to the significant tourism potential of Kargil district said that it has remained untapped and the infrastructure projects started by previous Coalition Government have been abandoned. “These projects would be revived  and the Kargil and Zanskar along with entire Ladakh region will be converted into a tourism hub,” he added.
Mufti Sayeed further said that huge horticulture possibilities in Kargil have remained under exploited. He said the traditional farming  practices have never been upgraded with the result that the growers do not receive adequate returns of their produce. He said the food preservation technology will be introduced in the region in a mission mode to ensure better income to farmers, especially the apricot growers.
