DUDU/BASANTGARH, June 12: Ranbir Singh Pathania, Spokesperson J&K BJP and former MLA Ramnagar, has demanded stern action against some miscreants who were allegedly harassing the local tribes.
While addressing a congregation of prominent people at Parla Dudu, he was highly critical of alleged lackadaisical approach of Police in arresting culprits of brutal murder of one Shiv Raj son of Assa Nand of Matloa (Chenani).
The meeting was attended by BDC Chairman Latti, Darshan Lal; BDC Chairman Chenani, Parkash Chand and BDC Chairman Basantgarh, Kewal Parihar, BJP Mandal Pardhans Suram Chand and Hans Raj, District Cashier BJP Shiv Charan, Ram Nath, Kavi Raj, Dev Raj, Kasturi Lal Gupta as well as twenty Sarpanches and Panches.
Pathania alleged that some rebellious tribal from border belt of Kathua, who move to Seoj Dhar area in the month of March-April every year, were forcibly occupying the main pastures of Seoj Dhar measuring about 400 square Kms. When the local shepherds (Gujjars and Gaddis) go there, these rebellious families extort money from these shepherd and this extortion racket breeds with the patronage of local police, Forest and Revenue officials, who share the booty,” he said.
The BJP leader claimed that every year dozens of complaints are lodged by the local tribesmen against the rebellious tribe before Police Post Dudu as well as Revenue and Forest officials but not action was ever initiated in this regard. “These professional outlaws have links with militants and last year, they had tried to kill one Bhim Singh son of Om Parkash of Panchound in broad daylight with grievous injuries on his body. Even as a case was registered at PP Dudu, none of the assailants was ever arrested. Rather they were even allowed to have a free run until a regular bail was granted by competent court of law,” he said.
Fumed over the indifferent attitude of authorities, a local Action Committee was constituted, which demanded immediate registration of an FIR/case for murder against the guilty members of the rebellious tribe, tracing out of dead body of Shiv Raj within two days with further custodial interrogation of members of said tribe and permanently debarring the said rebellious tribe from entering Seoj Dhar henceforth.
Pathania also demanded constitution of a commission of inquiry to ensure that all complaints of extortion, exploitation, sexual exploitation etc are registered against the tribe and bring all of them to a logical conclusion at the earliest.
