Pak troops violate ceasefire; militant killed, another held

Srinagar, Feb 6: Pakistani troops today violated ceasefire in Macchil sector of North Kashmir while a militant was arrested and another’s dead body was recovered in separate militancy related incidents in Kashmir.
An official said that Pakistani troops violated ceasefire in Macchil sector of North Kashmir this afternoon. He said that 649 Mujahideen and AOR 37FF Regiment of Pakistani troops fired from Pakistani Post Sara at Indian post Almora guarded by 56 RR of Army.
The official said that there was no loss of life or damage in the Pakistani firing. He added that Indian troops gave befitting reply to Pakistani firing to silence them. The firing continued for at least half an hour. Click here to watch video
In the meantime, Army issued an alert in Tangdar after inputs of shelling by Pakistani troops in the area. The area has witnessed heavy shelling recently including last week in which one civilian was killed and damage was caused to residential houses. There are no bunkers in the sector and residents along the LoC in the area are under direct firing range of Pakistani troops.
And militants today threw a grenade at Police in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar. However, there was no casuality. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area. No one was arrested.
This is the second grenade attack in the city in the last four days since Sunday. On Sunday, a grenade blast took place near Lal Chowk in which 9 persons including CRPF personnel were injured. The grenade was lobbed on the troops deployed there.
A police official said that they have arrested a suspect who they believed was involved in the grenade attack at Partap Park. He was arrested from Rajbagh area of Srinagar and is being questioned. Police is looking for his accomplices, who are part of the module.
In the meantime, dead body of a militant was recovered in Awantipora area of South Kashmir. He was injured in an encounter on January 22 that took place at Zaintrag Awantipora in which one foreign militant was killed. Another militant, Rayees Ahmad Dar, had escaped from the custody in injured condition. Today his body was recovered from nearby area.
