Dr Sharma re-elected as NSF president

JAMMU, May 9: Dr Vikas Sharma has been re-elected as State president of National Secular Forum (NSF), during the executive committee meeting held here today.
On the occasion, the executive body passed several resolutions unanimously.
Dr Sharma said that the Governments have failed to provide effective transport policy, healthcare facilities and other basic amenities. He said in coming days, the Forum cadre will launch rigorous campaign across the region for the cause of people.
Dr Sharma also announced the executive body, in which Ravi Choudhary was appointed as state incharge and will lead the student related issues. Surjit Choudhary was nominated as senior vice president whereas Dr Vikas Sharma was nominated as vice president and chief spokesperson of the Forum. Sukhdev Singh was nominated as organizing secretary and vice president of the forum.
Ravi Choudhary and Shafqat Malik were nominated as general secretaries, whereas Dr Sandeep Sharma, Dr Rash Pal Singh, Randeep Singh Chib and KD Singh were appointed as vice presidents.
Balveer Kumar, Ajaz Shah, Amit Sharma, PP Singh, Ankit Raina and Sahil Sharma were appointed as secretaries while Nitin Chandel was appointed as press secretary, Saleem Qureshi was nominated as spokesperson, Sunil Kumar was appointed as publicity secretary and Vijay Kumar as joint-organizer secretary.
Sanjeev Kumar was appointed as treasurer, Dr Hari, Dr Parsh Shastri, Dr RS Jasrotia, Dr Amit, Rahul Sharma, Narinder Singh, Jagmohan Singh, Chaman, Vimal, Vikram Kumar and Pawan Singh were elected as executive members.

Vijay Dogra appointed PDP State Secretary

JAMMU, May 9: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today appointed Vijay Dogra as State Secretary of the party.
According to General Secretary of PDP Thakur Balbir Singh, party Chief Mehbooba Mufti has appointed Ms Vijay Dogra as State Secretary and she will coordinate party activities in Chenab Valley region comprises erstwhile Doda including Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar districts.
Vijay Dogra is a prominent social and political activist who has been actively associated with the PDP.

Sarpanches boycott NRHM program

SAMBA, May 9: Majority of the Sarpanches and Panches from four blocks of district Samba today boycotted the programme held under NRHM by the State Health department at the district headquarters here today.
This programme was attended by Health Minister Sham Lal and Minister for Industry and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia besides MLA Dugra Dass from Hiranagar.
In the meeting held on Tuesday at Samba, the Sarpanches from all the blocks including Ghagwal, Samba, Vijaypur and Purmandal resolved to boycott the Government function to lodge their protest. They are demanding full powers and adequate funds for the development of Panchayats. Leaving a few from Purmandal block, majority of the Sarpanches and Panches stayed away from the function today.

Kalash Yatra taken out in Mendhar

MENDHAR, May 9:  A grand ‘Kalash’ Yatra was taken out today in the border township of Mendhar by the members of Hindu community in connection with religious function at ‘Prachin’ Hanuman Mandir.
A large number of devotees assembled at the temple and then took out a Kalash yatra which culminated near Post Office. A large number of men, women and children chanting Bhajans and religious slogans (Jai Ghosh) participated in the procession. Several religious scholars from various parts of the country are participating in this week long religious programme. Swami Harvind Ji Maharaj from Kanchi delivered sermons to the devotees at the Temple today. A grand langar has also been arranged for the devotees. All the days during the function, ‘Jhankis’ will be taken out in the town, a spokesman of SD Sabha said.

Public suffers as JAKFED workers’ strike continues

JAMMU, May 9: The ongoing strike-cum-protest-dharna of JAKFED employees continued on the 10th consecutive day today.
The general public/ consumers including farmers were being affected with the ongoing strike of the JAKFED employees while the JAKFED Management has failed to hold negotiations with the striking employees. These workers are demanding 6th Pay Commission benefit and implementation of SRO 43 in the JAKFED. They resoled to go on hunger strike from May 11.

2 bovine smugglers nabbed

SAMBA, May 9: The police seized a Mahindra vehicle near Dhyani on National Highway and nabbed two bovine smugglers along with a vehicle today.
A police spokesman said that during naka a police party at Dhyani intercepted vehicle No. JK08B/8726 and nabbed two occupants. They were identified as Shaiya Gujjar, son of Dassu of Haria Chak in Hiranagar and Somuddin, son of Maam Din of Hire Chak. The vehicle along with two bovine animals was also seized. A case has been registered in this connection.

8 injured in road accidents

SRINAGAR, May 9: Eight persons were injured in different road accidents across the Kashmir valley today.
Reports said that a Beacon tipper coming from Sumbal to Manigam turned turtle near Watlar, Ganderbal, resulting in injuries to four labourers. The injured were shifted to Public Health Centre, Lar for treatment.
A Vista vehicle bearing registration number JK01Q/8597 hit and injured a motorcyclist Mohammad Iqbal Dar son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-din and Ghulam Mohi-ud-din son of Abdul Ahad residents of Tailbal, Srinagar at Gupkar road. The injured were shifted to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar for treatment.
A motorcycle bearing registration number JK01K/8782 hit a pedestrian Ghulam Hassan Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Hard Ichloo, Tangmarg at Boulevard road near Zabarwan Park, resulting in injuries to both the motorcyclist and pedestrian. Both the injured were shifted to SMHS Srinagar for treatment.

Students witness “Kuggi Mar Duari”

JAMMU, May 9: Chief Education Officer, NR Dingra along with students from various schools today witnessed the special show of “Kuggi Mar Duari” at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu.
While speaking, CEO said that it is a reasonable and cultural film having information of Dogri language and culture.
Every aspect of the film is to the point, which is easily understood by the audience, he said, adding, that he feels proud that artists of Jammu made the film, which is not less than a Bollywood movie.
He recommended the film for the students of school and colleges of each and every corner to watch this film for promotion of Dogri language and culture.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Producer Director Neelam Phull and team for the promotion of Dogri language and culture in the State.

GDC Bishnah adopts village Dhinday Khurd

JAMMU, May 9: Students of Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah today visited and adopted village Dhinday Khurd.
Principal of the college Prof Kalpana Kesar, NSS Programme Officer Prof Archana Bakshi, NSS volunteers along with staff members visited the village and also conducted a visit to two Anganwadi centers.
Prof Archana Bakshi initiated the proceedings of the programme by collecting the data of total population of the village, male-female ratio and generated awareness among the women regarding female foeticide which is a danger and threat to the society. NSS volunteers educated the women of that village about Girl Child Education.
Earlier, Prof Kalpana Kesar, encouraged the rural women to send their wards to join college for higher education. Prof Hardeep Kour also stressed on the girl child education for the development of the society. Two NSS Volunteers Rakesh Jamwal and Shivalee Khajuria also spoke on the role of girl child in the development of the Nation.
During the activity, signature campaign was organised to save the girl child.
At the end, Prof Anshu Andotra, presented vote of thanks.
Among others present were Bandhu Sharma, Chanan Lal Sandhu and Ashwani Raina.

SSH concerned over increasing power cuts

JAMMU, May 9: Shiv Sena Hindustan (SSH) has expressed serious concern over the increasing power cuts in Jammu and criticized the Power Development Department (PDD) for the same.
In a statement issued here today, state president, SSH, Rajesh Kesri said it is unfortunate that right from the day of darbar move to Valley, the power supply has been reduced in Jammu region which resulted into unscheduled power cuts.
He said despite people remitting the power bills in time, the State Government has failed to provide power supply where as the people in Valley who are not punctual in payment of the bills are getting round the clock power supply.
