JAMMU, Jan 16: Four Padma awardees met here today under the chairmanship of Dr Jatinder Udhampuri for recognition and privileges by the State Government to them.
The meeting, attended by Moti Lal Kemmu and Balwant Thakur, was convened by S P Varma.
The awardees, in their first meeting, desired to form a joint forum of all the Padma awardees of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to facilitate their cause. S P Verma said that there are lots of privileges, facilities, honours being provided to the awardees of the other States by their respective State Governments but surprisingly no recognition is being given to the awardees of J&K State.
Moti Lal Kemmu desired to prepare a data-base of all the Padma awardees of the State to have their joint meeting so that a formal forum of the Padma awardees is formed. Dr Jatinder Udhampuri suggested that this group should approach the Governor and the Chief Minister of J&K State to apprise them about a common cause of the country’s one of the highest civilian awards.
