JAMMU, Aug 3: Demanding restoration of Statehood and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, opposition party held a protest demonstration under the banner of All Parties United Morcha (APUM), here today.

Leaders of the opposition parties, including Congress, NC, Shiv Sena (UBT), PDP, AAP, CPML, CPIS. Akali Dal and some social organizations assembled at Maharaja Hari Singh Park in Jammu and staged a protest holding placards with written slogans.
Speaking on this occasion, Manish Sahni, J&K head Shiv Sena (UBT) & APUM Convenor, in his address, described the amendment in the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, under which jurisdiction of the Government elected by the people has been reduced and the powers of the nominated Lieutenant Governor have been increased, an attack on the democratic rights of the people.
“BJP has come to know that the people are going to give the BJP nil seats in the upcoming Assembly elections. BJP wants to capture power in Jammu and Kashmir by amending the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act,” said Sahni.
Congress spokesperson and former MLC Ravinder Sharma said that taking away status of the state and limiting jurisdiction of the Assembly is an attack on democracy, which will not be tolerated at all.
NC Provincial President Ratan Lal Gupta said that along with restoring status of the State, the Central Government must ensure protection of land and job rights of the locals.
I D Khajuria, Sheikh Abdul Rehman (former MP), Narendra Gupta (General Secretary Congress), Vijay Lochan (NC), Sohit Sharma (PDP), Ramesh Sarman (DOM), Rakesh Singh (NC), Sunny Kant Chimb (HRC), Nirmal Mahana (AAP), Narendra Singh (S Akali Dal), Comrade Sukhdev Singh (DBYC), Subhash Mehta (CPI-L), Comrade Hari Singh (CPM), Chaudhary Balkar Singh, Shivraj Singh, Gitter Singh and others also spoke on the occasion.
Others who participated in the protest demonstration, included Sanjeev Kohli, Meenakshi Chhibber, Vikas, Dr Shamshad, Bakshi, Vimla Luthra, Raj Singh, Jatinder Singh, Lucky, Rakesh Singh, Pawan Singh, Mangu Ram, Sanjeev Sharma, Parahotam Mehta, Manjeet Singh, Ajay Kumar, Romesh Chander, Raj Singh, Rohan Manwal and Sahil Verma.
