JAMMU, Apr 6: The teams of Drug and Food Control Organization carried out surprised inspections of various retail drug establishments across five districts of Jammu region and suspended operations of 38 drug retail outlets for violation of rules of Drug and Cosmetics Act and other contraventions.
The inspection of drug outlets in twin districts of Chenab Valley i.e Doda & Kishtwar was carried out by a team of DFCO under the supervision of Farida Parveen (ADC), in outskirts of Jammu district viz Bishnah, Phallian Mandal and Chatha under direct supervision of Mohd Iqbal Palla (ADC Jammu) and in Kathua & Samba districts under the supervision of Rajesh Anguralla (ADC). The drive was conducted on the directions of Lotika Khajuira, State Drug Controller.
During the drive, the teams inspected chemist shops situated in far flung areas viz. Salehar, Arnia, Laswara, Makhanpur, Bishnah, Paddar, Nagseni, Payharna, Chhatrro, Muhgal Maidan, Chingam, Drabshalla, Kishtwar Seri, Bhalla, Pranoo, Doda, Prem Nagar, Thathri Kathua, Basholi, Nagri, Parole, Mahanpur, Bani, Boillwar, Hiranagar, Marheen Samba, Vijaypur, Ramgarh, Bari Brahmana, Purmandal to ensure availability of safe, efficacious and quality drugs to the end users.
Operations of 38 Retail Sale establishments (6 in Jammu district, 8 in Samba district, 10 in Kathua district, 4 in Doda district and 8 in Kishtwar district) were disallowed on the spot by the inspecting teams, u/s 22 (d) of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940. The reasons for suspension ranged from non-maintenance of sales records, impersonation, unhygienic/unsanitary conditions, improper storage conditions etc. The licenses were warned of severe action in case the deficiencies are not removed within stipulated period of time.
Moreover, statutory drug samples of more than 100 formulations viz. antibiotics, PPI, steroid, NSAIDs etc were also lifted randomly for determination of their strength and purity. These samples were referred to Drug Testing Laboratories locate within the state.
