One dies, 14 hurt as vehicle rolls down into gorge

RAJOURI, May 9: One person was killed while 14 other persons were injured when a passenger vehicle (Tempo Traveler) rolled down into a gorge in Darhal area of district Rajouri this afternoon.
Official sources said that a Tempo Traveler No. JK-11/7862 which was on way to Rajouri from Parori via Darhal, skidded off the road and rolled down into nearly 100 feet deep gorge at around 3 pm today just ahead of Parori. While a girl was killed on the spot, 14 other passengers were injured in the accident.
The locals of the area and police party from Darhal rushed to the spot and rescued the accident victims. They were shifted to CHC Darhal. While nine injured persons were further referred to District Hospital, Rajouri, five others were provided treatment at Darhal Hospital.
The deceased woman was later identified as Malika Khatoon, daughter of Lal Din, resident of Tarkasi.
The accident victims admitted to District Hospital Rajouri are- Mohd Aslam-25, son of Wali Mohd from Parori; Mukhtar Ahmed-29, son of Ghulam Hassan from Parori; Anwar Hussain-20, son of Nazir Ahmed from Sokar; Naseer Hussain-27, son of Mohd Bashir from Prori Gujran; Gulshan Iqbal- 30, son of Gh Qadir from Parori; Mohd Sharief-70, son of Lal Din, resident of Mathyani in Mogal; Irshad Begum-35, wife of Bashir Hussain from Parori; Makhni-40, wife of Noor Hussain from S okar Danna and Mohd Amin-67, son of Sakhi Mohd from Tarkasi village. One seriously injured has been referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu, the police said.
