“In the aftermath of the attack in Pahalgam I have called an All Party Meeting tomorrow afternoon. I have sent out letters of invitation to all major political parties, all Members of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir and the Leader of Opposition in the J-K Assembly,” Omar posted on X.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, Srinagar at 3 pm on Thursday.
“I write to you with a heavy heart, in the aftermath of the horrific attack that took place in Pahalgam on Tuesday. The lives lost and the anguish inflicted upon innocent citizens have deeply shaken us all. This is not mere a tragedy for a region or party — it is a wound upon the very soul of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Chief Minister wrote in the letter to various political parties’ heads.
He said it was the collective responsibility of the political leaders as representatives of the people and “custodians of democratic values” to come together and stand united in response, irrespective of our political affiliations.
Omar said the All Party Meeting will discuss the situation, express our joint condemnation of this act of terror and deliberate on the path ahead in ensuring peace, justice and resilience.
“Your presence and counsel will be of great value as we shape a common voice that reflects strength and solidarity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar said in the letter addressed to the party heads and others.
He said he was extending the invitation (for an All Party Meeting) not just in my official capacity, but as a friend and a fellow citizen who shares your anguish and concern. “Let us come together-as partners in the service of our people-in this hour of pain and resolve,” Omar wrote.
Sources said invitations have been extended to all major political parties for attending the meeting. Possibility of the All Party Meeting adopting a resolution is likely to be explored, they added.
