Old Hospital Road traders, DBYC members hold protest

JAMMU, Sept 17: Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Committee (DBYC) members  and Small Shopkeepers Association,  Old Hospital Road  Jammu held a protest demonstration in support of the small shopkeepers of JDA /Supper Bazar Complex where mechanized multi-storey car parking  complex is being constructed by the ERA.
While addressing the gathering, Sukhdev Singh, convener said the giant construction agency ERA is adamant to erect the 6 ft  (height) chain link fencing with 2 ft (height) glass which will hit the business of the small shopkeepers of both side of the parking road and impossible for the shopkeepers run their livelihood and day to day activities.
He said these shopkeepers have been running their business for the last 25 years in the heart of city. He further said that they have apprised the whole problem to the   Chief Minister   during the partly inauguration of parking regarding obstruction ceased due to raising of railing and glass.  The traders also meet with the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and explained the same, in turn the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu assured that he will personally visit the area and then  a decision will be taken after detailed deliberation and consultation with the Agency.  But their issue remained unresolved.
The traders also said that the installed fire safety system in the said parking has not yet been certified by the competent agency and it is matter of grave concern that the fire system has been installed without the approval of Competent authority. They added that even the Temple in the area  was not spared and fenced from all sides, making it very difficult for the devotees to perform Puja.
They appealed all the Trade Unions, social organizations, political parties, RTI activists to support the cause and pressurize the agency for the same for not erecting the said fencing.
The committee members condemned the statement of MLA Jammu-East, wherein he said that some vested interests were creating un-necessary hurdles in completion of the pending work and making the car parking facility fully operational.
Krishen Koushal,  HC Jalmaria, Inderpal Singh, Kulvinder Singh,  Anil Sharma, Shivnandan,   Pritam Singh, Jaspal Singh Mangal, Paras Ram Poonchi,  Subash Mehta and others also spoke on the occasion.
