OBCs ignored for 8 yrs, only NC can ensure their welfare: Rattan

SUNDERBANI, Nov 27: Provincial president of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Rattan Lal Gupta has slammed the incumbent regime in J&K led by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for totally ignoring the people belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and demanded the enhancement of reservation quota for the members of this community.
Addressing the workers’ convention of the party’s OBC Cell at village Marchola in Tehsil Sunderbani today, Gupta accused the J&K Administration of adopting a negative attitude towards the OBCs. He claimed that Govt was not showing any concern to addressing the pressing issues of this section of the society. He said it was the National Conference that showed its concern for this section of the society by constituting the OBC Development Board in the erstwhile State of J&K with the Chief Minister being the Chairman.
He lamented that the community now stands totally ignored in the present regime. However, he asserted that NC will work relentlessly to uplift this section of the society and bring it at par with the other sections of the society.
The Provincial president asked the workers to work sincerely at the grass-roots level take stock of people’s problems especially the OBCs and get the same addressed at the earliest. He appealed to the OBC community members to further strengthen the hands of National Conference chief Dr Farooq Abdullah as NC alone has the solution to their problems.
Abdul Ghani Teli in his address said that the government has dejectedly unsuccessful in protecting the rights of OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir. He asserted that when other Central laws are being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir then why the Central Government is shying to implement Central OBC quota in reservation at par with rest of the States.
Naseem Liyaqat, DDC Chairman Rajouri and Vijay Lochan, Incharge SC Cell also spoke on the occasion and demanded implementation of Mandal Commission Report in J&K UT.
Rameshwar Singh, DDC Member and senior leader from Kalakote Th Yashu Vardhan Singh assured the senior functionaries of the Party that they along with a strong and dedicated army of party workers will leave no stone unturned in strengthening the party base across Sunderbani and Kalakote constituency ensuring success of the party candidates.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Th Shamsher Singh, Anita Thakur, Mohd Rafiq, Mohd Nissar, Dr Ragubhir and Subash Saraf.
