JAMMU, Sept 24: Nursing Homes and Clinical Establishments Association appealed for the release of arrested members of the profession to restore the confidence of the medical fraternity.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Swarn Singh, President of the association assured that complete cooperation will be provided to the investigating agencies to bring the real facts to light.
He said that doctors and Institutions like the Nursing Homes are shouldering the responsibility of providing health care to the society and any allegation made against them should be dealt with utmost care and caution and unless sufficient evidence is available, they should not be subject to harassment.
Creating unnecessary scare amongst the members of the fraternity will affect the services provided by them to the common man, Dr Singh added.
The Association condemns the unfortunate happenings in the Home for Mentally Retarded, which have come to light as it feels that the extra ordinary haste in which the members of the nursing home fraternity, unconnected with the issue, have been implicated and focus shifted to a medical procedure alleged to have been carried out 16 years ago on the basis of hearsay, has only served to divert the attention from the real culprits, responsible for the recent offences committed by them, he added.
He pointed out that the Nursing Home owners have been treated without the verification of facts. Action has been taken against them based on unverified and verbal statements without any evidence against them. It appears that whereas the minimum requirement is to verify and ascertain the facts before proceeding with any punitive action against anyone, in this case the reverse has been done by first arresting them and then trying to create and collect the evidence, he said.
Among others present were Dr Navindu Raizada, vice president, Dr Vishav Gupta, joint secretary and Dr Yudhishter Veer Gupta, general secretary.
