JAMMU, June 12: Jammu University unit of NSUI today protested against National Testing Agency (NTA) and Government of India for harassing students of Jammu by allotting them CUET centres outside J&K.
Shouting slogans, the NSUI activists also torched an effigy of the Government for its alleged insensitive attitude towards the grievances of students.
While speaking to media, NSUI JU President Jatin Dogra drew attention towards the difficulties being faced by the students because of allotment of CUET centres outside J&K. ” Firstly, a lot of fees have been taken from the students; Rs 1500 for one form, which many students could not afford and had to give it due to compulsion. Later, the students’ centres were also made outside the UT, which bothered them a lot,’ he said and appealed to Lt Governor as well as the Central Govt that the students should not be troubled so much.
Jatin said that NSUI has many issues and demands but most important of them is that the students should first be refunded half of their fees and either allotted CUET centres in their hometown or provided travel allowance for the same. He warned that NSUI will continue protests if the demands are not conceded.
Senior NSUI activist Sandeep Singh Balwal also addressed the gathering and said that after the abrogation of Article 370, the Government had promised equal treatment for Jammu, but now, students are facing the most unequal treatment in the CUET exam.
“The exam centres for Kashmiri students are in Kashmir, but for Jammu students, the centres are outside Jammu, which is a great injustice to the students. The students who are from far-flung areas are facing a lot of problems in traveling to two different places in one day. Therefore, the Government should take cognizance of this matter and extend the exam centres to Jammu,” he said.
The protest demonstration was attended by Salik Ali Shah, Khushi Chib, Salma Sarwar Khan, Sakshi Hansa, Aditya Sharma, Sarfraz Khan, Rashid Malik, Mubeen Talib, Kiranjyot Kour, Lalit Atri, Nikhil Ghai, Munish Sharma and others.
