JAMMU, Oct 7: Expressing concern over the lack of basic facilities in primary schools of Jammu district, National Secular Forum (NSF) today criticized the State Government for taking no interest in improving the scenario.
According to NSF Chairman, Jammu Unit, Ajaz Shah, in Jammu district 156 primary schools out of 978, have no potable water facility while 205 are being run from single room and 57 from rented accommodations. In several schools, where storage tanks have been provided, there is no supply of drinking water, he added.
“In violation of the Supreme Court guidelines, which make it mandatory for all States to provide electricity connection and also install an electronic meter, more than 150 schools have no power connection and during peak summer season, the teachers are forced to take classes in open under shade of trees”, Shah informed.
The NSF said that due to these shortfalls, the enrolment in such Government schools has been witnessing a downward trend while private schools are flourishing.
